My Fox Philly - BLOG:
Adam Weitz from 'A Sharp Production' in Huntingdon Valley, PA www.asharpproduction.com
has seen more than his share of weddings! He's been in the wedding
entertainment industry for 25 years. Here are his money-saving tips:
LED Uplighting in the room versus traditional lighting:
- Hundreds of dollars less expensive that traditional lighting using
larger lights
- LED lights conserve energy
- Has Morimoto effect, fresh, beautiful and hip look for events
- LED lights easily complement the colors of your wedding (Savings: $250-$350)
Projection Gobos:
Very inexpensive way to add a personal touch (bride
and groom's initials projected onto the center of the dance floor)
Photos of Bride and Groom:
Bride and Groom create their own power point with photos of them throughout
the years (or assign a creative family member to do this) This saves
hundreds of dollars because you're not paying someone to create it,
and you have real control over the photos. Adam's staff will walk brides
and grooms to be through the process for free if they don't know how
to create a power point. That power point loop plays on a plasma, at
the wedding. (Savings: $500-$750)
Coupling a DJ with a Trio of Performers. Instead of hiring a full band,
hire a DJ-Live Musician package.
- This will cut your cost from nearly $10,000 to $5,000.
- The DJ interacts with the musicians, often playing the background music
for the live vocals. You're also assured to get EVERY song you want
played. If the live entertainers don't know it, your DJ will have it.
Part of this package should be an MC. One of the live vocalists will
also serve as The Master of Ceremonies and will work to energize the
crowd. This is very important, because sometimes the DJ can't really
take control of the crowd and get them quiet and off the dance floor
when it is time to turn the focus back to the family and announcements/toasts.
(Savings: $3,000 to $5,000)
If You Must Have a Live Band:
- Don't always go for the top performer, and don't always go with the
owner. While Adam's headline band is awesome, he says the lesser known
acts as his entertainment company and others are just as spectacular.
He also says you can get these bands for half the price of the top
booked acts, and that they're often BETTER at playing the fresher music
because they are younger musicians and know the songs you grew up listening
to in high school and college much better than some of the more seasoned
performers. (Savings: $2,500-$3,500)
- Adam says that in these times, if an entertainer or venue is not willing
to help you make your budget, find another. He says there are plenty
out there who are talented and willing to bend to make your event everything
you want. You may have your heart set on a specific location, but if
you can't get a deal, or you can't get your Saturday date, shop around
and find another amazing venue for less.
Finally, Adam's number one tip:
Don't pay a wedding planner, and be willing to shop around. Go to showcases,
work with one company where you can get everything under one roof.
You'll find fabulous deals when you bundle, and what you may not like
at that company, chances are they will help you find it. They want
your business, and during these times, they are very willing to go
above and beyond to make your day exactly what you want. Companies
like Adam's provide an "event manager" as part
of the package deal. This person does not work with you a year out,
but he/she does work with you during the most crucial times - a month
out and continuously through the night of the event. This person is
assigned solely to make sure everything goes smoothly at the event
- from the food to the music to the decor. They make sure the bride
and groom don't have to worry about anything during the stressful weeks
leading up to the event and the night of their big day. (Savings: $2,500-$5,000)
